Baking soda and honey: exfoliates, lightens and combats excess fat

March 13, 2020 by MrWriter Leave a Comment

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate or carbonate, is a white powder that we all have or have had in our homes. Mothers have always kept it in the kitchen for cooking and even for cleaning.

This compound is obtained naturally from a mineral called trona and is also produced artificially. In addition, it is important to note that it does not contain additives.

Benefits of baking soda

It is important that you tell your doctor what you are using and in what amounts before you start using it, so that your health is not affected.

The following properties are attributed to baking soda, some real and others not so much:
1. Natural digestive

It is believed that this ingredient could be used to treat problems related to indigestion, as it would help relieve flatulence and digest heavy meals more quickly. However, numerous studies recommend not taking it, especially if you have heart problems or diabetes, as is the case in this study conducted by the University of California.

This other research, from the University of Washington, warns that overuse could lead to serious problems, such as hemorrhagic encephalopathy.
2. Natural antacid
bicarbonate-sodium

Although in small amounts it could be effective, as detailed in the second investigation in the previous paragraph, ideally we should consult our doctor if we want to start taking it.
3. Depurative

There is not enough evidence to support an alleged purifying power related to sodium bicarbonate.
4. Antiseptic

Another use for baking soda is as a tooth whitener. However, it is also abrasive to the teeth, so it is advisable to consult your dentist first.
5. Combats cystitis
Symptoms of cholecystitis

According to a study by Chungbuk National University College of Medicine, consuming bicarbonate would help the kidneys create a protective barrier against bacteria. However, it is important to check with your doctor first, as it is not known exactly how much you should take in order not to be harmful.

It could also increase the amount of sodium in the body, which is dangerous.

Similarly, the combination of sodium bicarbonate with honey is ideal for treating dermatological problems, specifically those of the face. According to this study conducted by the University Malaysia Kelantan, honey has healing and antiseptic properties, highly valued in cosmetics.

On the other hand, bicarbonate works as a skin exfoliant, getting rid of dead cells.
Ingredients

ΒΌ cup baking soda (120 g).
1 cup of honey (preferably natural) (250 g) .

Preparation

Mix the bicarbonate with the honey in a pot.
Stir the mixture until you get a thick and homogeneous paste.
Cook, preferably in a water bath, for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
Turn off and set aside.

Application

It is not advisable to consume in excess, since a dose greater than a teaspoon can produce a gastric rupture.

Therefore, it is important that you do not eat anything without first consulting your doctor and that you avoid eating foods such as red meat, flour and sugars.

Acne Mask
Steps for Acne Skin

Another use attributed to baking soda mixed with honey is to fight acne or pimples. Masks are not only cheap and easy to make, but there are also risks to the skin, according to some studies.

One of these studies is the one carried out by the scientific entity Europe PMC, and it states that these risks could surpass in amplitude the supposed benefits, because it could cause skin irritations and inflammations.

Consult your doctor or a dermatologist first.
Ingredients

2 tablespoons baking soda (30 g).
1 tablespoon of honey (15 g).
Lemon juice.

Preparation

First, form a paste by mixing the baking soda with the honey and lemon juice.
Then, spread the mixture all over the face, in a circular motion.
Let it rest for 10 minutes.
Remove the mask with warm water.
Dry your face with a clean towel.
Finish by applying a moisturizer to seal the pores.

Finally, you should know that people with colon problems or gastritis should avoid baking soda. Also, as we’ve pointed out over the years, bicarbonate should be avoided by people who have a bad colon or gastritis.
